CJC Executive Board Application

Welcome to the CJC Executive Board application!

As an applicant, be aware that if selected you will be expected to serve in your desired position from the beginning of the Fall 2010 semester until the end of the Spring 2011 semester. Please take that into account if you are planning to go abroad either semester.

Please read the following position descriptions carefully as you decide how you want to get involved:

Co-Chair: The CJC Co-Chairs are the students chosen to oversee the community. This position offers an amazing opportunity to represent an organization that reaches hundreds of students every year. Co-Chairs serve as the face of the community to Hillel, the greater Penn community, and the outside Jewish community. As such, it is important for the Co-Chairs to attend all religious services and CJC events. Major responsibilities include running/scheduling board meetings, serving as a liaison to Hillel staff and other Hillel leaders, attending community leader meetings, and overseeing the sectors within CJC. The Co-Chairs set broad goals for the community and help other board members plan social/educational/religious programming.

Religious Life Chair: The two CJC Religious Life Chairs are responsible for helping to plan services (Shabbat and other holidays) and to work to make the religious aspects of CJC better.  Responsibilities include helping to recruit people to attend and participate in services and other religious activities.  Specifically the Religious Life Chair helps find torah readers and people to lead services, as well as helping to make them run smoothly.  It is advisable for the Religious Life Chair to be somewhat familiar with weekly services and to have a desire to learn.  The knowledge gained in this position is invaluable and allows you to become a lifelong resource to the greater Jewish community.

Social Chair: The Social Chairs of CJC love to meet new people, make new friends, and help ensure a fun time for the whole community through CJC Rush and other fun events throughout the semester. For example, social chairs organize anything and everything from having "Ben and Jerry Havdalah" services, to having themed Shabbat dinners, exciting Onegs, study breaks and much more. We aim to include all members of the Conservative Jewish community in any way we can through social events, greeting people at services, and/or simply grabbing coffee with a fellow CJC friend. Social chairs are also responsible for working together with other board positions in order to promote CJC events and reach out to and work with the rest of the Hillel community.

Education Chair:
The Education Chairs' central responsibilities include planning structured learning times for members of the community, coordinating the weekly D'var torahs, and helping to bring interesting and unique speakers to campus.  We want to incorporate fun and stimulating topics, such as the following: Alcohol and You—What’s a Jew to Do?  Shomer Shabbat vs. Blackberry. Kosher (or Traif) Sex?!  INSERT YOUR IDEA HERE!!!  It's a great way to get involved with Jewish education and learn along the way!

Outreach Chair: The Outreach Chairs of CJC work to establish good relations with all members of the CJC community and encourage involvement of members. Through Hillel New Student Orientation and CJC Getaway social, religious, and educational events we motivate new and already involved members to attend events to meet new people and develop a sense of what CJC has to offer. The Chairs work to personally email and communicate with new members to talk about CJC and all of its fun features to foster community and offer leadership opportunities. Outreach chairs are also responsible for working together with other board positions in order to promote and market CJC events and reach out to the community. Working to extend events to surrounding Hillel communities in the Philadelphia area like Temple and Drexel is another great opportunity for outreach.

You may apply for one or more CJC board positions. Please rank your preference of positions in the boxes listed below, understanding by doing so, you are letting us know that you are willing to accept any of the listed opinions. Therefore, please list all positions you are willing to hold. Writing only one position, however, will NOT hurt your chances at getting a position on board, so just listing one position is fine, too. We’re just interested in seeing what you’re OK with doing!
