Social and Cultural Programs at Penn Hillel Bring Jewish Students Together
This semester at Penn Hillel, the social and cultural committees have worked together to create events to bring together Jewish students throughout the campus. This group of 6 student leaders, spanning a range of interests, class years, and social networks, began planning over the summer.
Events have included highlights such as the Freshman Fondue Dinner & KaraokeParty. Prior to Thanksgiving, the social committee hosted the "Hillel Downtown Party." Students gathered into the morning dancing, socializing, and enjoying time away from their normal campus routines. A suggested donation was requested and $500 was raised for Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces.
Additionally, Penn Hillel was honored to host David Wain. Director of the classic Jewish camping movie Wet Hot American Summer and the recently released movie, Role Models. Wain's visit to campus was inspiring and thrilling to the audience. He spoke about his experiences growing up Jewish in Cleveland, Ohio, being part of a youth group and of course attending Jewish summer camp. He also shared insights into his various creative projects as a writer and filmmaker. The event concluded with a screening of Role Models.
