Joy Ladin: Jewish and Transgender

Joy is the David and Ruth Gottesman Chair of English at Yeshiva University's Stern College. She is also transgender. Ladin is the author of three books of poetry, and is currently writing a memoir entitled "Inside Out: Confessions of a Woman Caught in the Act of Becoming." Since her recent transition from male to female, which caused a national stir in the Jewish community, she has spoken at universities around the country about her relationship with Judaism in the context of her experience being transgender.
