The Education Committee works to provide a diverse selection of Jewish educational opportunities for the entire Penn community in areas like Hebrew, Jewish holidays, Jewish culture and religion and other parts of Jewish life. The Community Holocaust Education Committee goes to local Hebrew schools and churches during the semester to teach elementary school students about the Holocaust. Workshops on teaching this sensitive but important subject are available for all students who wish to participate in this meaningful program. No prior teaching experience is necessary.

The Holocaust Education Committee (HEC) focuses on educating Penn’s community about the tragedy of the Holocaust in an effort to stifle future hatred and intolerance. HEC plans major events to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a moving, 24-hour, name-reading vigil, in which students, staff and community members always lend a hand. HEC happily welcomes participation from all members of the University community.

The Jewish Book Club is where “Oprah meets Telushkin.” Every month, the Book Club will select a book of a Jewish nature and host a discussion group for its members. All bibliophiles are encouraged to enjoy in the grand tradition of Jewish literature.

The Jewish Learning Initiative was created as a resource for Jewish education through a fulfilling partnership between Hillel, the Orthodox Union, and Torah MiTzion. Rabbi Mordy Friedman and Limor Friedman are available to the Jewish community as advisors and teachers, providing a variety of classes including Bible, Talmud and Jewish law. Both are also available for one-on-one study sessions.

Intercommunity Committee helps Penn Hillel focus on maintaining strong relationships with the entire Penn community by partnering with other student groups, both religious and non-religious.
