Sunday Night Learning (SNL)

SNL is an amazing tradition, where each week, a huge crowd of students gathers at Penn Hillel to learn Jewish texts and topics together. We will be premiering a new FREE dinner, served from 7:00-7:30 (Shotel Dubin Auditorium on the 2nd floor), followed by learning from 7:30-8:30 (3rd floor Beit Midrash). You'll be matched with a partner to learn any topic you choose. And you can come back every week! If you RSVP, we can match you with someone in advance, so in the comments section, indicate your level of experience with Jewish learning and any topics you're especially interested in. Teatron’s Brighton Beach Memoirs

Teatron, the University of Pennsylvania’s Jewish theater group, is proud to announce its performance of Neil Simon's hilarious Brighton Beach Memoirs. Set in Brooklyn in 1937, this comedy follows fifteen-year-old Eugene Morris Jerome as he experiences puberty, sexual awakening, and a search for self as he attempts to deal with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn. Tickets are $7 with a PennCard, $10 without.
Conference on Gender in Judaism and Islam

Topic: The Pesach Seder as a Defense of Jewish Faith – Kuzari, Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik and Rabbi Norman Lamm. Rabbi Gil Student is the Managing Editor of OU Press, the publishing
arm of the Orthodox Union, that is active in publishing books that help the Jewish community pray, learn and explore the world on a sophisticated,
traditional level. Rabbi Student is a frequent writer in newspapers and journals, and
authors a popular blog about the interface between different facets of
Orthodox Judaism, including contemporary religious topics in the news.
His Hirhurim-Musings blog was ranked "Best Jewish Religion Blog" for
2005 by The Jerusalem Post and has been cited in The Wall Street
Journal and other prominent periodicals. He has published two books
about the interface between Orthodox Judaism and current realities,
and is a frequent reviewer of other books that discuss similar topics. He is currently the managing editor of the Orthodox Union Press and founder of Yashar Books. Topic: "Interpreting Redemption: What is the Real Story of Pesach?"
Bio: Rabbi Jonathan Kelsen is a faculty member at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah and The Drisha Institute for Jewish Education, and a former faculty member of the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. A graduate of the Pardes Kollel and a fellow in the Shalom Hartman Institute's Hadarim Program, Rabbi Kelsen received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Daniel Landes and holds an MA in Jewish Civilization from the International School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Both Sides of the Wall: Transgender Jewish Identity

J-Bagel has organized for a Hillel-wide event in conjunction with Kol Tzedek West Philadelphia Synagogue. We will be hosting Professor Joy Ladin of Yeshiva University, the first transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution. Please bring everyone you know- she is a passionate, engaging, and transformative speaker who will reflect on gender in Judaism and her personal journey to becoming her true self in the Orthodox world. There will be Shabbat Services w/Kesher & Kol Tzedek Synagogue and Dinner at 6:30pm in the 2nd Floor Library.
